A second internet connection for Tibia: two links, no kick
A second link does not protect your session by itself. What protects it is the game not noticing the switch.
What the game server sees when your network changes
The server sees one connection from a particular IP address, and that address is part of the session's identity. When it changes, the old session stops existing and you are a new guest facing the login screen. Tibia cannot resume a session after an address change — and that is the whole problem.
Why a second link is not enough on its own
You can have fibre, LTE and a router with automatic failover. Each of those links still has its own public address, so a switch still ends at the login screen. That hardware gives you internet access — it does not give you session continuity.
How KickShield solves it
Traffic to the game servers goes through a tunnel to our node and only reaches Tibia from there. The address the game sees belongs to the node and does not change, no matter which link the traffic happens to be flowing over. Switching then becomes what it should be: a second of lag instead of a DC and a fresh login.
What to use as the second link
- LTE or a phone hotspot — the quickest to get and the most common choice. What is worth knowing about it
- A second provider at the same address — the most reliable if outages are frequent, and the most expensive.
- Someone else's Wi-Fi, a neighbour's for instance — only with their permission and only as a fallback.
